Private and public high school musical theatre programs in the seven county Denver metro area are invited to compete in The Bobby G Awards, a regional high school musical theatre awards program feeding into the National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) as a participating program for 2013 encouraging and rewarding outstanding achievements in the production of high school musical theatre.

Adjudicators, made up of professional working theatre artists, attend the participating high schools’ musical theatre productions between January 2 and May 5, 2014. Using the standards set by The Bobby G Awards training and criteria, as well as their own professional experience, these adjudicators complete extensive evaluation forms offering detailed feedback on the various elements involved with staging a musical production. Participating schools receive a copy of the forms complete with each adjudicator's comments, praise, and constructive criticism designed to motivate growth and recognize success.

In addition, these evaluations serve as a foundation for the nominations announced in early May 2014. The entire program culminates in an awards ceremony, modeled after Broadway's Tony Awards, on May 29, 2014 in The Buell Theatre - including performances from the shows nominated for Outstanding Overall Production as well as a medley featuring all nominees for Outstanding Performance by an Actor and Actress in a Leading Role - where outstanding achievements by students and educators made in the areas of performance, design, direction, choreography, technical production and overall production excellence receive their own Bobby G Award.

Participating Bobby G Awards schools also will receive discount tickets and a Q&A session with cast and crew members at a select performance of once. Schools also will receive one personal master class session with a Denver Center Theatre Academy Teaching Artist.

The 2014 qualifying Bobby G Award recipients for Outstanding Performance by an Actor and Actress in a Leading Role progress to represent Colorado at The National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York. .
