This advanced acting lab is designed for middle school performers who are ready to deepen their craft through focused training and collaborative exploration. Students work closely with scene partners as they dive into scene study and monologues, strengthening concentration, active listening, and purposeful character choices. Through guided exercises and rehearsal, performers develop a strong acting toolkit that includes emotional truth, physical specificity, vocal variety, and clear intention. Ensemble-based training emphasizes collaboration, creative risk-taking, and supporting one another as disciplined, thoughtful artists. What do musicals such as The Great Gatsby, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Nice Work If You Can Get It have in common? They all burst with the jazz-fueled energy, glamour, and grit of the Roaring ’20s. This spring, both the DCPA Broadway touring shows and Middle School Teen Company step into a world of speakeasies, jazz clubs, and glittering parties inspired by the music of The Great Gatsby on the DCPA Broadway stage. This musical revue celebrates the era’s bold style and storytelling as students collaboratively create their own original Jazz Age showcase.  Hone your triple‑threat skills—acting, musicality, and choreography—through character-driven scenes, tight vocal harmonies, and dynamic ensemble dance work. As part of the class experience, the cost of enrollment includes one ticket to The Great Gatsby. The Teen Company will attend the Saturday, April 17 matinee together as a full group, making the performance an integrated part of the six‑week session.

Hinton’s groundbreaking novel, our popular Teen Company will dive into a world of loyalty, rivalry, and resilience onstage. Inspired by the music, movement, and storytelling of the production, students will explore charged ensemble numbers and intimate character moments while honing their triple‑threat skills—acting, singing, and dancing. From high‑stakes confrontations to heartfelt reflections, Teen Company members will learn to bring this iconic coming‑of‑age story to life with truth, grit, and heart.
