2015 TRUE WEST AWARDS: 30 DAYS, 30 BOUQUETS

DCPA founder Donald R. Seawell

No retrospective on the year in Colorado theatre would be complete without marking the passing of Donald R. Seawell at age 103. The founder of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts built a cultural institution for Denver at a time when no one was asking for it. Today it has grown into the largest non-profit theatre organization in America, last year attracting more than 800,000 visitors.

DCPA Trustee Judi Wolf said Seawell will go down as the most important builder of culture in Colorado history, “hands down.”

ABOUT THE TRUE WEST AWARDS

The True West Awards began as the Denver Post Ovation Awards in 2001. This year, DCPA Senior Arts Journalist John Moore — along with additional voices from around the state — celebrate the entire local theatre community by recognizing 30 achievements from around the state over 30 days, without categories or nominations. Moore’s daily coverage of the DCPA and the Colorado theatre community can be found at MyDenverCenter.Org
