Behind the scenes video: Making stained glass for 'The Christians'

In the video above, DCPA Director of Scenic Arts Jana Mitchell takes you into the scene shop where she and her crew made the stained glass for the DCPA Theatre Company’s The Christians.

The Christians. Jana Mitchell. Stained Glass.“We always get a little giddy when we get stained-glass projects because … it’s fun,” said Mitchell, who reveals all her secrets – and secret ingredients. Like how she mixes pigment with Pledge Floor Care to give the glass (which isn’t even glass) color while remaining translucent.

Mitchell and her crew created two stained-glass trees, each 2 1/2-feet wide and 13 1/2-feet tall.

Lucas Hnath’s new play is about the mystery of faith and what happens when a doctrinal controversy shakes the foundation of a large community church. It plays through Feb. 26 in the Stage Theatre.
