ABOUT THE SHOWS (In Date Order)

Wolf Theatre
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Chris Coleman
Arguably one of the greatest plays of all time, Hamlet is a psychological revenge thriller, political epic, and family saga that’s both grand and deeply human. Packed with unforgettable characters and famous lines, Artistic Director Chris Coleman will helm the DCPA’s iconic season opener.
When Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, returns home after his father’s death, he finds his mother remarried to his uncle and his father’s spine-chilling apparition roaming the palace grounds. Commanded by his father’s ghost to avenge his brutal murder, Hamlet’s burden to reclaim the reins of the kingdom becomes a perilous journey through the psyche. Bound by duty yet tormented by the gravity of his mission, every scheme and equivocation will test his resolve, disrupt his relationship with the fair Ophelia, and pose the tragic dilemma of whether “to be, or not to be.”
Join us for one of Shakespeare’s best-known plays as you’ve never seen it before!

Book and Lyrics by Mo Willems
Based on the Elephant & Piggie books by Mo Willems
Directed by Allison Watrous
This play was commissioned by and first produced at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
Get ready for a fun-filled musical experience, leaping from the pages of Mo Willems’ award-winning, best-selling children’s books, that will leave audiences doing the “Flippy Floppy Floory” dance all night long! In Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!”, Gerald and Piggie take to the stage in a rollicking adventure that’s jam-packed with new toys, ice cream, trumpets, parties, and wild-and-wacky costumes!
An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are best, best, “bestus” friends, but Gerald worries that something could go wrong. Piggie is not worried at all. She’s even happier and more excited than usual. That’s because she and Gerald are invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, three singing squirrels who love to have a good time. And so begins a day when anything is possible.
Filled with beloved characters and lively songs, Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!” is the perfect way to introduce young people to the magic of theatre!
Our Theatre for Young Audiences program focuses on performances tailored for Pre-K through 3rd Grade audiences but welcomes all ages.

WELCOME TO MUSICAL COMEDY HEAVEN!
Funny Girl is “the hilarious, brilliant and stunningly gorgeous production that has made the almost 60-year wait for its return worth every second.” – Click on Detroit
Featuring one of the most iconic scores of all time by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, an updated book from Harvey Fierstein based on the original classic by Isobel Lennart, tap choreography by Ayodele Casel, choreography by Ellenore Scott, and direction from Michael Mayer, this love letter to the theatre has the whole shebang. The sensational Broadway revival dazzles with celebrated classic songs, including “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” and “People.” This bittersweet comedy is the story of the indomitable Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side who dreamed of a life on the stage. Everyone told her she’d never be a star, but then something funny happened — she became one of the most beloved performers in history, shining brighter than the brightest lights of Broadway.
