Each month, the DCPA NewsCenter offers an updated list of all upcoming Colorado theatre openings. Would you believe that a theatregoer would have to see two shows a day for every day in October to see all that the Colorado theatre community has to offer? It’s true. Here’s a roundup of your whopping 60 theatregoing options from around the state, including five at the DCPA alone. You can catch the First Lady of Denver singing in Uncle Jed’s Barbershop. Or take in a rare live performance by Tyler Perry performing one of his popular stage plays here in Denver, Madea On the Run at the Ellie. How about a world premiere musical called Bookface by locals Melissa Faith Hart and Bruce Perry that follows three generations of the Klein family via social media? Then there’s our title of the month, My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding at the Soiled Dove Underground. Companies are encouraged to submit listings and production photos at least two weeks in advance to jmoore@dcpa.org.

THE QUICK THREE:

DreaMakers Productions’ Uncle Jed’s Barbershop
This new family musical is based on the award-winning book by Margaree King Mitchell. It is inspired by the atmosphere, language and music of the late 1920s through the early 1960s, evoking rural Arkansas near the Mississippi Delta. Principal performers include  Mary Louise Lee, who made her professional debut at the Denver Performing Atys Complex at age 18 and is now First Lady of Denver), alongside Broadway veterans including Ken Prymus (Cats, Ain’t Misbehavin’) Terry Burrell (Dreamgirls), and Nora Cole (Jelly’s Last Jam). Created by Kenneth Grimes, David Wohl and Susan Einhorn.
Through Oct. 18: at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, 119 Park Ave West, Denver, 303-295-1759 or cleoparkerdance.org

AXS Presents’ Tyler Perry’s Madea on the Run
Yes, this is a stage play starring Tyler Perry himself as his iconic character Mabel Simmons, notoriously known as Madea. She’s, yes, the run from the law and, with no place to turn, she volunteers to move in with her friend Bam (Cassi Davis) who is recovering from hip-replacement surgery. Unknown to Bam however, Madea is only using her malady as a way to hide out from the police. With new music written by Perry, this tour has been called “a finger-snapping and inspirational evening of theater.
Oct. 21 only at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Denver Performing Arts Complex, 14th and Curtis streets, 4showinfo.com. Note: This show is not being presented by the DCPA).

The Catamounts’ Spirits to Enforce:
The story opens in what appears to be a mundane call center where a dozen telemarketers work the phones. It soon becomes clear, however, that this is no ordinary office space but rather the inside of “a dripping, creaking, rusted submarine.” And those temps? They’re superheroes in disguise trying to raise money to mount a production of Shakespeare’s beloved “metaphysical revenge comedy,” The Tempest. This gender-bending play by Mickle Maher (There Is A Happiness That Morning Is) infuses elements of Shakespeare and comic-book lore in a glorious celebration of the power of art to triumph over evil with a puckish sense of the absurd.
