Video: Robert Schenkkan introduces 'The 12'

“When your faith has been shattered, how do you go forward?”

Robert Schenkkan, winner of Pulitzer, Tony and Writer’s Guild awards, is the book writer and lyricist on the DCPA Theatre Company’s upcoming world-premiere rock musical, The 12.

Robert Schenkkan. What’s it all about? The 12, with a score by Neil Berg, imagines what might have happened in the three days after Jesus’ crucifixion from the point of view of the disciples, along with Mary Magdalene. Schenkkan takes it from there in the video above, shot at last week’s 2015-16 DCPA Theatre Company season-announcement party. (Schenkkan’s 2014 Tony-winning best play, All the Way, will be part of that lineup).

Schenkkan is the author of 12 original full-length plays, two musicals and a collection of one-act plays. Schenkkan won the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for The Kentucky Cycle. He co-wrote the feature film The Quiet American, and his television credits include The Pacific, The Andromeda Strain and Spartacus. Schenkkan has been commissioned to write a future play for the DCPA Theatre Company.
