Emily Hammad Mrig, PhD

Emily Hammad Mrig, PhD, is a professor at the University of California, San Francisco, where she leads National Institutes of Health-funded research focused on improving access to precision medicine, genetic testing, and targeted therapies for patients from underserved communities.

A Colorado resident and native, Emily earned her doctorate in Health and Behavioral Science from the University of Colorado and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Health Policy and Management at Yale University School of Medicine. Her research has been recognized with numerous honors, including an NIH Career Development Award, an American Association of University Women Fellowship Prize, and the 2026 UCSF Emerging Scholar Award.

Emily’s connection to the DCPA began through its education and outreach programs, where she first experienced the transformative power of live theatre as a student. She is a member of the DCPA Best of Broadway Society, a sponsor of the annual Hattitude Luncheon, member of the Women’s Voices Fund Steering Committee, and a longtime volunteer mentor with The Challenge Foundation of Denver. Emily and her husband, Amit, also support educational and community initiatives through the Mrig Family Foundation.

“The DCPA believes theatre belongs to everyone, and I’m living proof of what happens when an organization acts on that belief. I’m honored to help carry that promise forward for communities across Colorado.”
