2009 Summit Dates Announced
Next Colorado New Play Summit
February 12-14, 2009

Mark your calendars now! Next year’s Colorado New Play Summit will take place in Denver February 12-14, 2009. The three-day event, offered by the Denver Center Theatre Company (DCTC), will include world premiere productions of Michele Lowe’s Inana, a haunting look at art and love in a time of war, and Cusi Cram’s Dusty and the Big Bad World, a funny and very human satire on government censorship. Both plays were given readings at the 2008 Summit. In addition to these two productions, the 2009 Summit will feature four readings of brand new work, as well as a panel and, of course, the ever-popular playwright’s slam.

2008 Colorado New Play Summit Recap
The 2008 Summit was by all accounts a tremendous success. The multi-faceted event featured three world premiere productions: Our House, conceived by Theresa Rebeck and Daniel Fish, written by Theresa Rebeck; Plainsong by Eric Schmiedl, based on the novel written by Kent Haruf, and Lydia by Octavio Solis. Around these fully staged productions, four play readings also were presented: Inana by Michele Lowe, Dusty and the Big Bad World by Cusi Cram, Shooting Star by Stephen Dietz and Perilous Night by Lee Blessing. A playwright’s slam and a panel discussion on playwrights who write for television and the stage rounded out the weekend. Nearly 200 theatre professionals attended.

Continued life: Four theatres will be producing Lydia next season: Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, Yale Repertory Theatre (both directed by Juliette Carrillo who directed it at the DCTC), Marin Theatre Company and Miracle Theatre Group in Portland, OR.

Our House will be produced by New York’s Playwright’s Horizons.

Submission Guidelines
The Denver Center Theatre Company accepts original, full-length, un-produced plays. All plays should be submitted through an agent, with the exception of plays by Rocky Mountain States residents in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. We have a special interest in African-American and Latino plays, as well as plays by women.

Adaptations will be considered only if the playwright has secured underlying rights. No children’s theatre plays. We cannot accept e-mail submissions. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope if materials are to be returned. Plays may be sent directly, without prior synopsis or dialogue sample. Due to high volume of submissions, response time may take up to six months. Plays are accepted year-round and should be addressed to:
