Volunteers
As a nonprofit, the DCPA relies on its 300+ dedicated volunteers to ensure an exceptional audience experience for all locally produced Theatre Company, Cabaret and Off-Center productions. As a volunteer and a member of the frontline team, you’ll be asked to warmly greet patrons, provide information, distribute programs, direct patrons to their seats, and overall, ensure the safety and comfort of our guests while they attend a DCPA event. Volunteers also have the opportunity to see many of our produced shows while working their shift, in addition to receiving access to presales and additional ticket offers.
Becoming a Volunteer
Our volunteers are required to participate in an annual orientation and other safety trainings. Volunteers are asked to commit to working a minimum of two (2) shows per month, a commitment that should not be taken lightly. As an essential part of the front-of-house team, volunteers are expected to always maintain a professional standard, which includes everything from attire to reliability.
Additional Volunteer Requirements & Responsibilities:
- 18 years of age or older
- Exceptional customer service skills with a proactive, patron-centered approach
- Positive, can-do attitude that is friendly, courteous, professional, and approachable
- Read and interpret tickets (digital and printed) in a dimly lit environment
- Arrive 90+ minutes prior to the posted curtain time and stay through the duration of the performance based on the needs of the Theatre Services Manager
- Provide and wear a long-sleeved, white button-up, collared shirt; black socks; black full back vest*; black slacks; black shoes (no open front or back) *Black vest is provided
- Utilize technology including email and the volunteer scheduling website
- Assist the Theatre Services Management with a variety of duties including emergency response
- A love of the performing arts!

* Please note: All communication is done via email. Familiarity with and access to a computer to manage schedules is essential. A direct phone number is also required in case of schedule changes or cancellations.
