Programs For Our Community
Professionals and aficionados of all ages can participate in classes in downtown Denver all year long. We also partner with educators and schools statewide to enhance in-class instruction and introduce students to theatre on-site or at the performing arts complex. Here are some community highlights.
Shakespeare in the Parking Lot
Shakespeare in the Parking Lot is exactly what it sounds like: an abridged performance of a classic that takes place in and around our pick-up truck “set” right in your school’s parking lot. Performances are followed by an in-class, interactive workshop that helps students connect themes of the play to the high school experience.
Bobby G High School Musical Awards
This annual ceremony encourages, celebrates and rewards outstanding achievements in high school musical theatre throughout Colorado while offering a chance at recognition on the national scale. Any musical production performed by private and public high schools in Colorado are eligible to register.
Book Stars PreK Literacy
Book Stars encourages PreK students to use their bodies, voices and imaginations to explore classic and soon-to-be classic children’s picture books within a thirty-minute visit. Students are introduced to a book and then immersed in its themes and situations.
DPS Shakespeare Festival
DCPA is a proud partner of the oldest and largest student Shakespeare festival in the country, bringing together theatre lovers from across the region every spring. This day-long festival is held in downtown Denver and provides the opportunity for students to perform scenes and sonnets from the works of William Shakespeare.
Post-show Talkbacks and Discussions
We often host open discussions between audiences and artists–especially after student matinees. We believe that a good experience with theatre goes beyond the performance to include different perspectives on themes, challenges, timely issues or just “how did they do that” fun.
