Breaking News: 2022-23 Bobby G Nominees Announced
Nominations have been announced for the ninth annual Bobby G Awards by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA). The event will be hosted by 2019 Bobby G Lead Actress Abby Linderman and held at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House on May 18, 2023.
The Bobby G Awards are a state-wide high school musical theatre program that recognizes Colorado students and educators in the areas of performance, design, direction, choreography, stage management, musical direction, orchestration, technical production, and overall production excellence. The awards ceremony serves as an opportunity for the DCPA to honor Colorado musical theatre programs and for students to celebrate and support each other.
The winners of the Bobby G Outstanding Lead Performer awards will represent Colorado in a week-long series of intensive workshops with industry professionals in preparation for the highly anticipated Jimmy Awards on Broadway. The national ceremony will take place on June 26 at the Minskoff Theatre, hosted by stage and screen star Corbin Bleu. At the 2022 Jimmy Awards, Colorado’s Lead Actor representative, Thomas Beeker, was selected as a Top Eight Finalist out of 92 participants and received a $3,000 scholarship.
For this year’s Bobby G Awards, adjudicators evaluated 50 participating productions in 20 different counties in Colorado. Over 4,000 students were adjudicated, 750 of which participated in workshops held by DCPA Teaching Artists. Out of those 50 participating schools, 31 received nominations.

ThunderRidge High School and their production of The Addams Family follows behind with seven nominations, then Fossil Ridge High School and their production of Bright Star with six nominations.
All three aforementioned schools are nominated for Outstanding Overall Production. Joining them in the category are Central High School, Newsies and Overland High School, Urinetown. Overland High School won Outstanding Overall Production in 2022 for their production of Sister Act.
A new category has been added this year to recognize Outstanding Achievement in Stage Management. In addition, The Bobby G Awards has chosen to adjust the acting categories to be gender neutral, now recognized as Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role and Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role. Both categories will have two winners.
There are four new participating schools this year: Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy, Centaurus High School, Prairie View High School which was nominated in Lighting Design, and Hinkley High School which received a Special Achievement in Student Leadership for Genesis (Gen) Ruano.
