The DCPA Theatre Company is now accepting applications for the 2020-21 class of its new Playwrights’ Group, which was established earlier this year to foster the work of local playwrights.
“Since our inception, we have fostered more than 250 new works for the American theatre,” Director of New Play Development Douglas Langworthy said of the DCPA Theatre Company. “The Playwrights’ Group is intended to support the work of plays by local playwrights and create a pipeline to our new-play development program.”
The first four individuals selected for The Playwrights’ Group’s inaugural 2019-20 class were announced in February: Jennifer Faletto, Colette Mazunik, Jeffrey Neuman and Brenton Weyi. They were chosen from a field of 213 local playwrights.
Applications for the 2020-21 class will be accepted through August 15. Membership in the group is for a one-year term. The Denver Center will provide a stipend of $2,500 to each participant, twice-a-month review and discussion, two table readings during the script development and the option for further development as a commissioned playwright. Meetings begin in June 2020, with final table reads the following May. Learn more and apply here.
“Denver is such an exciting place for playwrights,” Langworthy said. “With so many theatres and groups supporting local writing, we felt it was time for the Denver Center to revive an ongoing playwriting group with a new group of writers each year.”
