When Funny Girl opened on Broadway in 1964, it launched the career of none other than Barbra Streisand who was cast to portray the real-life of Fanny Brice who inspired the musical. Its score by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill and book by Isobel Lennart was nominated for eight 1964 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score and includes some of the most enduring songs in musical theatre history such as “People” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”

The musical has spawned 10 subsequent productions in the England, Australia and the US, including the 2022 Broadway revival and current national tour.
