Kevin Massey and John Rapson of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder were in Denver last weekend in advance of the Tony Award-winning best musical’s visit to the Buell Theatre coming up Feb. 16-28.
While here, Massey sang the National Anthem before the Denver Broncos’ thrilling overtime victory over the New England Patriots before 76,970 at Mile High Stadium. And the brought the show’s Tony Award along for all the fun.
Massey previously appeared at the Denver Center as part of the Little House on the Prairie national tour starring Melissa Gilbert as well as his eventual wife, Kara Lindsay, who later played a featured role in the DCPA Theatre Company’s 25th anniversary retelling of Quilters in 2009. Lindsay is now playing no less than Glinda in the Broadway production of Wicked. By a fun twist of fate, you can watch Lindsay sing the national anthem in Denver with the Quilters cast at a 2009 Colorado Rockies game here.
Rapson has visited Denver twice with the Les Misérables national tour.
A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder tells the story of Monty Navarro (Massey), a distant heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by any means necessary. All the while, he’s got to juggle a mistress who is after more than just love, his fiancée (she’s his cousin, but who’s keeping track?) and the constant threat of landing behind bars. Rapson plays all members of the ill-moraled and ill-fated D’Ysquith family.
