Nestled against the west side of Mod Market is downtown’s newest immersive experience. The return of ARTcade at 1555 Champa Street is yet more evidence that Denver is quickly becoming the hub of immersive experiences in the US.
ARTcade is described as a fusion of classic arcade games and contemporary art. Melding the talents of more than 85 local artists with old-school arcade games such as claw and pinball, the immersive installation is a treasure of trove of incredible artistry and gamification.
A project of the Denver Theatre District, ARTcade redefines the “look but don’t touch” nature of art; instead, artists have designed one-of-a-kind creations with the sole purpose of being hands-on experiences. Not only that, but, much like an actual arcade, participants are rewarded with prizes including original art, stickers, plush toys, handcrafted jewelry, buttons, apparel and more.
ARTcade was designed to be enjoyed by all ages; yet, children under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Players receive tokens at the entry booth for game play. If the game hasn’t dispensed its own prize, participants will receive tickets redeemable for prizes upon exit.
The experience is open through December 22 (Thanksgiving excepted) on Thursday through Sunday from 12-8pm. DCPA patrons are encouraged to avoid traffic congestion, grab an early dinner and stop into ARTcade for a few games before heading to the Arts Complex for their ticketed event. For immersive arts enthusiasts, consider heading downtown to visit the nearby Museum of Illusions and ARTcade before heading to Meow Wolf or MONOPOLY LIFESIZED: Travel Edition at Broadway Park®.
The Denver Theatre District (DTD) activates a 16-block area of downtown Denver and provides an outlet for area artists to share their work. DTD developed ARTcade in partnership with some of the area’s best visual and immersive artists and studios.
