Hundreds of students and educators were joined by family and friends at the Bobby G High School Musical Theatre Awards on May 16 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Performances by the five nominated Outstanding Overall Production schools took place throughout the evening as well as a medley sung by the ten nominated Outstanding Lead Performers. The event was hosted by Cami Nugent and Connor O’Brian, 2023 Outstanding Lead Performer winners.
After receiving 12 nominations, Fossil Ridge High School’s production of Carrie: The Musical took home five awards, including Outstanding Achievement in Musical Direction, Hair & Make-Up Design, and Orchestra.
Lutheran High School’s production of Newsies received three awards in highly anticipated categories, including Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical. Grayson Graham took home one of the Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role awards; Hannah Schnorr from Fossil Ridge High School received the other.
Grayson and Hannah will be invited to represent Colorado at the Jimmy Awards on Broadway. The event will take place on June 23 at the Minskoff Theatre, home of Disney’s The Lion King. The Jimmy Awards have kickstarted many performers’ careers: Reneé Rapp (Mean Girls), Andrew Barth Feldman (No Hard Feelings), and dozens of Broadway stars including Eva Noblezada, Casey Likes, and Justin Cooley.
