With two locations to choose from, Legacy Pie Co. lives up to its name. Sweet and savory, large or small, the nearly 100-year-old family business says, “if pie is for special days, every day is for pie!” The pie that started it all was a tart cherry, and now they boast more than eight sweet options including Apple Caramel Crisp, Classic Apple, and Double Chocolate Peanut Butter. On the savory side, they offer a variety of options from veggie quiche and mushroom veggie pot pie to green chile, vegetable curry and buffalo chicken hand pies. And if you’re shopping for a special occasion, they can add a personalized pastry message to the top of your pie. Who’s hungry?

When you say the words “granny” and “pie” in the same sentence, you know it’s going to be good. For more than 30 years, this Lakewood establishment has served up 25 different types of pies daily. Among their specialties are Vermont Maple Pumpkin Pie, Swiss Chocolate Mousse, and Grasshopper Pie. But two things set this pie shop apart — they offer a large assortment of special order pies that are available with 3+ days’ notice and you can purchase unbaked, frozen pies to have on hand when that hankering rears its hungry head in the middle of the night. They also offer an assortment of quiches and baked goods. What’s not to love?

When you’re out on your neighborhood walk each summer, you often see cherry trees loaded with red fruit. If you’re lucky, you can enjoy some before the squirrels beat you to it. So it’s no surprise that a Colorado company took advantage of the bounty. The Colorado Cherry Co. not only makes regular cherry pies, but it also makes Cherry Oat Bars, Cherry Pie Filling, Cherry Berry Pie, Black Bing Cherry Juice, Cherry Butter, Cherry Jalapeño Preserves… It’s just like the many ways to cook shrimp in Forrest Gump…barbecue, boil, broil, bake, sauté. I digress. As the Lehnert family likes to tell it, “It all began in 1929, when Grandma Lehnert mastered the art of the cherry pie. She never stopped baking — and neither did we.” Four generations later, the Colorado Cherry Co. has a variety of pies, preserves, salsas, and more available in Loveland, Windsor, Lyons, the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, and on the worldwide web. What are you waiting for?
Pick up locations vary by day of week. See website for details.
We have a celebrity in our midst — and I’m not talking about the Drag Queen persona. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, Martin Howard (otherwise known as Chocolatina Q Dessert) was named among the “Top 10 Pastry Chefs in America” by Chocolatier/Pastry Art and Design magazines and won the prestigious James Beard Foundation baking competition. Now in Denver, The Pie Queen offers a weekly selection of pies that can be picked up or delivered right to your door along with a serenade — perfect for office parties and personal celebrations. What’s pie without a little razzle dazzle?
5721 Olde Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada • 303-467-1810
When you have a whole cake named after your home country, chances are you know your way around a kitchen. Established in 1963 and located in Olde Town Arvada, the Rheinlander Bakery specializes in German Chocolate Cake (of course!) as well as an assortment of beautiful pastries. Among them are ten pies including the classic Dutch Apple, Pecan, and Pumpkin as well as twists on traditional favorites such as the Cherry Marzipan Pie, Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie, and Pumpkin Truffle Pie. Pre-order online or walk in and choose from a limited selection of daily options. Mmmm, yes, please.
