504: The Musical
Book & Lyrics by Abbie Goldberg
Music by Mason McDowell
1977. San Francisco. A prolific group of disabled activists walks and rolls into the federal building, refusing to leave until the first major piece of legislation for disability rights is enforced. They stayed in that building for 25 days. 504: The Musical is a fictionalized adaptation of those fateful days of disabled resistance. This world premiere pulses with energy, heart, and the unmistakable spirit of resilience in the face of a world that doesn’t accept you. Blending vibrant music with rich storytelling, the show follows a community on the brink of change as they fight for connection, identity, and hope in the face of shifting times.
For over 37 years, Phamaly Theatre Company has been a creative home for theatre artists with disabilities, producing professional plays, musicals, and original work cast entirely of performers with all types of disabilities: physical, emotional, intellectual, cognitive, and trauma-based. Phamaly is dedicated to modeling a disability-affirmative theatrical process and upending conventional narratives by transforming individuals, audiences, and the world.
504: The Musical is produced by Phamaly Theatre Company in partnership with the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
