A sense of real belonging at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts is created through spaces that are shaped with the unique needs of diverse communities in mind. The work of creating spaces and implementing practices that support equity, diversity, inclusion, and access is fundamental to a thriving theatre community and to the DCPA’s mission.

Similarly, many other local organizations have embraced equity, diversity and inclusion to welcome and empower communities of color.

THE MUSEUM FOR BLACK GIRLS

Founded in 2019 in Houston, Texas, The Museum for Black Girls recently opened a second location on the 16th Street Mall. This museum celebrates the essence of Black women and their experiences. These immersive exhibits range from a tribute to Beyoncé to a golden salon chair, a floral room, and more.

Its mission is for every guest to leave the museum with motivation and inspiration to create their beautiful stories and history.

The Latino Community Foundation of Colorado (LCFC) pushes for civic, economic, and cultural opportunities to provide an authentic narrative about Colorado Latinos. Its values include cultural justice, community, and family.

In 2022, LCFC started the One Community, One Legacy campaign to build the first Latino Philanthropic Superhighway so communities, leaders, and supporters can develop more equitable systems to improve the quality of life and deliver higher levels of productivity.

The Colorado Hebrew Chorale’s mission is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the Jewish experience through song and is committed to using the power of music to bring forth understanding through education, Jewish community involvement, and multi-cultural outreach.

Some communal services include performing for Shalom Park and the Allied Jewish Apartments Senior Residencies, Rocky Mountain Synagogues, Holocaust Remembrance, Israeli Memorial Day, Israeli Independence Day, and the Denver Jewish Film Festival.

Founded by Candice Bataille, Glowmundo serves as a response to meet the needs of underserved children in America to strengthen their resilience and not fall through the cracks of the system.

Educators, families, and community leaders can collaborate to educate and build practices for better equity, social and emotional learning, community engagement, and academic achievement. Programming ranges from early childhood and K-12th grade to parents, family, educators, and more.

The Denver CO. Chapter of The Links has served a vital role in enriching the lives of African-Americans and others by focusing on service, friendship, community involvement, and philanthropy since 1952!

This chapter has 53 active members and has delivered more than 3,500 volunteer service hours annually. Some program highlights include Early Reading & Mentoring Program at Hallett Academy, Girl Fierce, Mindfully Free, Helping Hands 2 Haiti, LinksHelp for Humanity: Bahamas Relief Fund, and more.

The Denver Indian Center Inc. offers numerous programs to assist and advocate for Native American culture. The Native Community Peer Outreach program works with individuals, families, groups, and more to push for relevant cultural outreach.

The Honoring Fatherhood Program (HFP) motivates fathers to live with integrity and purpose to strengthen families and communities. Curriculum offers self-determination and a deeper understanding of relationships, fatherhood relevancy, the importance of economic stability, and more.

Other programs include the Native Workforce Program and Community Services.

Founded in 2009, the Colorado Asian Culture and Education Network (CACEN), elevates Colorado’s Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander communities and works to correct inequities through cultural and education programs.

Whether it’s breaking down barriers to ensure that the AAPI community is safe from COVID, providing mental wellness programs or coordinating volunteers to help Seniors, CACEN works to ensure that individuals receive support and services to ensure their wellbeing.

The group also strives to share its culture with others throughout the area through its weekly Chinese Radio broadcast, distribution of publications and various public events.
